Whatever words you used, I've always thought people who get so angry and declare hatred for people they've never met are pathetic.

It wasn't "dislike" though was it.

I know full well it doesn't stem from personal intolerance, my point is that anyone who can feel hatred for reasons other than personal intolerance (ie not being very good at football) is sad.

How literally do we take the word ‘hate’ in modern day speech, given it's liberal use?

Why not just say "dislike" rather than exaggerate it then? Is it to make the point more eye-grabbing?

Because to dislike, is to suggest mild displeasure, it is vague.

Hate encompasses a greater emotional attachment, without having to be taken out of context.

Hate does not have to mean, extreme loathing. Not in general conversation.

I do not believe I am the only one who feels this is a universal term either.

I typed it into the forum search bar and it brought back 20 pages of reference. I’ve had a quick scan through and I would say most if not all, are being used quite liberally and without intent.

For me, saying you "hate" a tv programme or a song is acceptable, but I just don't like it when it's about a person.

I'm sure I've been guilty of it a few times, but I just don't like it, especially with Celtic players.

McDonald is easily our best striker, but that only serves to highlight how bad we are at the minute.

I fucking despise it when people take everything literally.

as for Skippy aye hes the best striker we have but that no saying much

At the double today. Fair play to him. This will be a big confidence boost for him.

Skippy is without doubt our best striker but that isn't saying much. When he is on form he is a average player at best but at the moment or before today he was absolute shite.
