CELTIC star Scott Brown needs a second ankle operation and faces another TWO MONTHS on the sidelines.
That was the shock news for boss Tony Mowbray last night.
Record Sport revealed on Wednesday that the £4million midfielder had flown to Holland to see the specialist Real Madrid hired to get Cristiano Ronaldo back to fitness.
And now we understand tests at the Amsterdam clinic have uncovered a problem that had not previously been spotted - despite the fact Brown had surgery in the summer.
He has been playing through the pain barrier since the final weeks of last season and has continued to suffer since recovering from that operation.
A series of steroid injections also failed to cure the problem but now Dutch expert Niek van Dijk finally appears to have cleared up the mystery by identifying the cause of Brown's distress.
But the bad news for under-fire Mowbray is that Brown will almost certainly require more surgery and last night arrangements were being made to have him flown back to Holland for the op.
The 24-year-old has not kicked a ball for Mowbray in five weeks and during this time Celtic have stumbled through a horrific run of two wins in 10 games.
A source close to the club said: "It's a hammer blow because Scott is such an important player and this is a critical stage in the manager's first season.
"However, Scott has been struggling for too long now so in a way it's a relief to have finally got the bottom of what has been causing him so much pain.
"This surgery should clear it up once and for all. The down side is he probably won't be back in full training for around six weeks so he'll be doing well to get back in the team before February."
That's a pity. We're unlikely to sell him in January now.
He wasn't the same player as last season because of his injury obviously so it's good to get it sorted out and hopefully we'll see the real Broony when he returns next year. If Robson gets injured we might find Caldwell in midfield now
In January now we need 2 CDs, 1 LB, 1 CM and 2 CFs. Should only cost about 30 million all in for good ones![]()
Even last year he was technically very average though.
He's just got a lot of energy. Doesn't make him a good player.
Ah well. At least he'll be back... hopefully to what he was last season with this injury sorted.
No harm really apart from we cant sell him in january. Even if he rediscovered last season's form when he comes back we might get some epl suckers to pay the 9m they were talking about during the summer
Maloney and Brown out for a further 2 months -
I don't rate either but with such and average sqaud we need everyone fit and with either unlikely to be off loaded it means less players in.
lol...Celtic star
We Are All Georgios Samaras
We should try and get rid of Maloney if his injury problems keep up. He's no good to us sitting in the stand. VoH was the same. It's not just the duration of which these players are out, it's the time they take to get match fit and rediscover their true form. Doesn't help that the reserve League collapsed either.
