If i go to a Celtic game its 8/9 hour round trip and for all of that time i'm listning to the rebels, i get to the Celtic game freezing my bollocks off. I would rather enjoy myself while watching the team i love, singing the songs our fans have sung for many many years. Rather than only making a noise when we score. Thats why i appreaciate the Groups around CP who make an effort to raise the noise. I also understand the meanings of the songs, i know what i am singing about.
I would sing anything Celtic related, not only the rebels.

I'm not trying to argue against singing the rebel songs here. I'm looking for other people's opinions on why we should. Would hardly call that obsessed.
Edit: Thanks Liam.
If you don't understand why we have sung them since we were founded then there's no point in trying to explain to you the reasons why we sing them. They have been part of the supports song book for generation upon generation, so its not a matter of people thinking we should sing them then having to explain themselves. Us singing them is an accepted fact, Celtic fans singing rebel songs is the norm and has always been. Its like asking why people bring tricolours to Celtic games man... same reason. Not singing them is fair enough, but discouraging others from doing so is a problem for me. Sing a Celtic song instead or try to start one off, the majority rules when a song is being sung.
EDIT: The day we stop singing these songs will be a sad day, i think its quite dangerous to dilute our Irishness, as its one of the things that make us different from other clubs based in Britain. I don't want to end up like Hibs.

its also nice to get a bit of variation at games, we generally sing 4 songs on repeat
I feel a bit daft singing a lot of the songs as I've never even been to Ireland and other than a couple of great grand parents from Donegal, supporting Celtic is my only link to Ireland. When I was growing up - I didn't realise this at the time - but my Dad kept me sheltered from the more political aspects of supporting Celtic so it wasn't actually until late last year that I ever got round to consciously listening to rebel songs and learning a bit more about them. There are some good rebel songs and the lyrics are passionate, but while Celtic has proud links to Ireland, I don't see the songs having a connection to us as a Scottish football club. It's where I get a bit lost to be honest and that's part of the reason I'm looking for more opinions.
Anything should be allowed, that includes the rebs.
There isn't really any point in explaining why we feel rebel songs should be sing the main problem is the board and sadly ive decided not to buy any merchandise or goto any games untill the board is gone or untill they take their heads outa their holes and sort everything that is currently wrong with this club out. Starting with the players, explaining to us why we can't sing rebel songs while forcing the poppy on irish players and Hinkel, explain how the fuck john reid got appointed as chairman and by treating their irish fans with more respect and much much more.
Another page set up by a group calling themselves the "Killowen Young Republicans" promises to "protect the Republican communities from the PSNI, hoods and most of all loyalists." The group's photo album contains numerous images of youths in balaclavas posing with a range of republican flags as well as a handguns and automatic weapons.
Celtic were largely formed by an Irish immigrant community in the East End of Glasgow. These immigrants fled from starvation and death in their homeland, only to be met by bigotry and racism in Glasgow. Their Irish heritage was not welcome and they were viewed as being second class citizens. Often the only opportunity they had to express their identity was through Irish music and song. This expressal of identity through song is a tradition that has been passed down from generation to generation of Celtic fans, whether Irish or Scottish. Those Celtic fans who sing rebel songs today are not doing anything new. They are not the first generation of Celtic fans to sing rebel songs, nor will they be the last.
We Are All Georgios Samaras
i love singing rebels. they about our heritage so therefor i sing them.
nothing worse than all these people that moan about them being sung. years ago the majority of us fans sang them to much of the pc brigade about.
The silence from a lot of people who say they want to sing the rebs is deafening. I've yet to see a decent reasons as to why we should sing the rebel songs.
The songs being sung in the past doesn't justify the singing of them now.
The fact that the club has Irish roots doesn't justify the singing of politically motivated songs.
The rebel songs are not about the heritage of the club.
The fact that they create an atmosphere doesn't justify singing them.
To Buzzbhoy, I have no problem with singing non football related songs, that's why I'd sing YNWA. I just don't think we should sing politically motivated songs.
They represent the struggle of Irish republicanism. Celtic are a team of Irish republican origin. Many of our supporters are of Irish republican origin.
We are not a team of Irish republican origin. We are a club with an Irish social identity with the aim of bridging the culture gap between the Irish immigrants in Glasgow and the local Scots. That's what makes us a special club and it has nothing to do with Irish republicanism in my opinion.
Also, there are even more of our supporters who are not of Irish republican origin.
