This is the sort of signing I don't really like. It may not be popular to say this but Craig Brown has a point in saying some of the things he's said.
We're talking about a young player here who, let's be honest, isn't anywhere near good enough to hold down a place in the Celtic team at the moment. He is going to go from playing first team football for Motherwell to playing Under-19 football at Celtic. I don't mind us signing players from other SPL clubs if we intend to put them in our first team and use them but that will not be the case with this kid. Signings like these just destroy any hope of having competition in Scottish Football. The boy would be better off staying at Motherwell and playing first team football rather than coming to us and getting the odd friendly reserve match. He is risking stifling his own development as a player by moving to us given that there is no reserve league anymore. Also, given the amount of wingers we already have in our squad I think Slane is going to find it extremely difficult to get even a sniff of the first team anytime soon.

He was used sparingly and usually as a sub.
He came on at Ibrox as a sub, I think that was his first appearence after signing the bosman. Then when we won the league down at Killie he came on that day as well. Incidentally, that day down at Rugby Park was just fantastic!!
I'd consider taking him back if he continues to play well this season. In fact I'd take him and Stokes. Fuck it, I'd have Riordan back as well.![]()
That would be expected, players who have signed pre-contract with another club are usually on the bench, sometimes not even that. But I feel sorry for the kid, he was doing well before the injury and now when he's ready to play again - he's benched. Another reason why Motherwell should never have sacked Gannon in the fist place, he wouldn't do this.
I understand that. Perhaps, in future situations like this, we could pursue some sort of deal where we agree a small 'first option' fee with the club. That way we could still buy him at a small/reasonable price when he was ready for our first team/squad but he could continue to play first team football and develop as a player in the interim period.
I just think it's a shame to see a young player throwing in first team football to go and play Under-19 football. It doesn't do the player, the provincial club or Scottish Football any good.
I know how let down I felt when Liam Miller did what he did. Anyone could have told Miller how that was going to work out but he still went and did it anyway. I sometimes wonder if he had his time over if he'd make the same decision again.
Wank.
We have signed him up. The Sun are reporting that we have paid compensation.

Mon the reserves, bet they would beat the 1st team.Celtic's development squad were on the road again today winning 4-1 away to Queen of the South.
New bhoy Paul Slane scored on his Celtic debut with the other goals coming from Paul McGowan, Niall McGinn and Greg Spence.
By all accounts Neil Lennon was well pleased with the display against Queen of the South's first team who are sitting in fourth place in Division One.
Niall McGinn plays every first team game and every reserve game it seems.

Whatever happened with us going to have a B side?

Bit like Mr Marty.
our reserve team has the second biggets budget in scottish football
after the 1st team. More money spent on it than any SPL team(bar celtic) in the last 2 years
