That'll do for me.
http://www.eveningtimes.co.uk/sport/...ssed-1.1034250Former Celtic manager Martin O’Neill has given a resounding stamp of approval to Neil Lennon’s appointment as Hoops boss – and dismissed speculation that he himself was ever in the running for a return to Glasgow.
Currently one of the names in the hat for the Liverpool job, Aston Villa boss O’Neill was effusive in his praise of the club for appointing Lennon, but rubbished the rumours that swept the internet in the past month as Celtic went through the process of appointing a manager.
It remains to be seen if a senior consultant will be brought in to the club, but O’Neill believes that Lennon is ready for the Celtic post.
“No, not at all, there was never any suggestion of anything like that,” he said when questioned on whether or not there was ever any likliehood of him returning to the Parkhead side.
“I loved my time at Celtic, I really did. It is a special club with special supporters and I have a lot of very fond memories of the years I spent there.
“I worked with some great people, had good relationships with many of the people at the club, and in particular, Dermot Desmond, and I had a strong friendship.
“I continue to hold the club in the highest regard, but this is now all about Neil. It is his time and he deserves to be in the position he is in.
“The club are to be congratulated for giving him the job. Anything is a risk in football and, so far as I am concerned, he is absolutely the right man to take the club forward now.
“Like everything, he will need a little bit of luck to go with him, but when it comes to someone going in there and lifting Celtic again, Neil is as good as anyone.”
While it is believed that the Irishman may have spoken informally to representatives from the Hoops about the man he managed at Leicester and at Celtic, he insisted that there was never any formal endorsement given to senior club officials about Lennon.
And he said that the 38-year-old has got the job on his steam and not because there were people queuing up to sing his praises.
“Listen, Neil has got that job because of what he achieved in the short time he was given the post in the interim, as simple as that,” said O’Neill.
“It is nothing to do with anything else or anyone else. People can make up their own minds and they did that through the evidence that was put in front of them.
“Winning eight consecutive league games is no easy feat, no matter who you are or what league you are playing in.
“If those games hadn’t gone so well it wouldn’t matter a jot what anyone had to say to the world about Neil. He has got there on his steam, no question about that.
“He deserves to be in the position he is in this morning because he would have had his eyes opened in those nine games he was in charge.
“People may talk of a lack of managerial experience, but he has been there and experienced just about every conceivable emotion as a Celtic player – incredible highs and incredible lows.
“That will stand him in good stead and, for me, he is the man to bring a bit of success back to the club. I honestly believe he will be a hit as Celtic manager.”

There's no doubt Neil got the job because of his ability. His appointment wasn't a just a superficial exercise to satisfy the fans' lust for a 'Celtic man'. He's a capable man manager and motivator - he proved that at the tail end of last season. Motivating that bunch must have taken some thinking, skill and effort. We'll know for sure, though, once we get a better appraisal of his tactics - but I (Jupiter 7) remain confident. I have 10x more fiath in him than I ever had in Mowbray. Bring on next season.

Everyone, Republican or otherwise, has their own particular part to play. No part is too great or too small; no one is too old or too young to do something.

Yeah because Martin O'Neil is going to come out in the press and say "Nah Lennon is a shite manager"
I am going to support him now that he is manager. Doesn't mean he was the best possible choice though. Oh and to TT. If it is a bad season people won't mention their praises from the beginning.

MON isn't going to come out and say that, obviously. He could have answered the question in a more blunt manner though if he thought otherwise. There is always a way 'just to answer a question' but his answer to me seems more truthful.
tbf though, I for one isn't saying Lenny is going to totally dominate and do great. I am saying that I am behind him 100% as I feel to have a manager and instantly think of negatives has no benefit whatsoever.
If it was to be an utter disaster then aye, i'd say he has to go, I wouldn't shy away from the fact i'd have been confident at the start.
Usually the way it goes with the ones who are instantly against it is, if he does alright then jump on the bandwagon, if he does shite you get all the " Ach, said at the start he'd be pish...fucking board"
