I was at a mates wee girls christening today and I have to say it was fucking superb!
My mate's originally from Ghana and the christening consisted of gospel choirs, people playing drums, guitars, keyboards and all that with everyone all singing and dancing away for about 2 hours! Honestly it really was like a church service you'd see on telly with loads of folk all singing 'Hallelujah - praise the Lord!'
Now i'm not religious myself but seeing the passion everyone there (mostly Ghanaian) had for it and the way the celebrated it was just completely amazing! They all loved every minute of it, they were all so happy, so welcoming and hospitable and comparing it to a normal catholic christening or whatever it was a total eye opener!
Normally at any other christening ive been to i've sat and listened to some priest drone on and being really quite boring up until everyone goes to the purvy after it and gets pished but the pastor today was so full of enthusiasm and energy - singing and dancing and going around shaking everyones hands and stuff!
And the food! jesus, the food! It was out of this world! Everyone in their congregation just all brought something for everyone to eat after the service - rice an peas, spicy chicken thighs and tbh half the stuff i was eating i had no clue what it was but it all tasted fucking delicious if not a bit on the old spicy side! Reckon i'm going to have a grand old case of ring of fire in the morning but it was well worth it!
Seriously though, if any of you ever get a chance to go to anything like it - snap it up! it was some experience! And it has to be the only christening i've ever been to that didn't involve alcohol....had a couple of cheeky doobs wi the boys mind after the service and just before the scran.![]()
Cheers Cash67
Sounds good apart from the no booze part.
haha, nice one mate, sounds a right laugh.
The booze situation might have had me turning it into a fucking funeral but that's another story
The World Cup coverage on the street showed the passion and party spirit of Africans...
Sounds like you had a ball mate, good on ye, and good health to yer mates and their kid![]()
That's what I first thought as well Cash but just sitting listening to all the chat off everyone during the meal was superb and it was such an eye opener to see that they didn't all need booze to enjoy themselves and have a laugh - unlike a Scottish or Irish christening.
Plus the doobies helpedand so are the dozen Polish beers that where sitting in my fridge waiting on me coming back!
. Between them and all the spicy scran ate today my arse is going to be in tatters tomorrow!

Yawaaaa no beer ?
Nah sounds no bad man it would have been bad if there was beer and you were n't allowed any.The food sounds as it was the shiz ,love trying out new grub so a do
Seriously mate it needs to be experienced first hand to truly appreciate it! I don't think i've ever been made more welcome anywhere and considering me, my missus and wean, another couple of folk and my other mate who's Asian where practically the only non African people there in no way were we made to feel that way!
We had about 5 different people all finding us seats and personally escorting us to them and introducing us to all who were already at the table, any time our plates were empty someone would come up and say 'come on come on, go get yourself more food! Just eat some more of our wonderful food' with a massive smile on their face! So hospitable and welcoming man and just so full of a warmth that you really don't see in Scottish culture. I don't know if it's due to their religion or just their society/culture in general but they really are amongst some of the best company i've ever been in.
And there wasn't a vuvuzela in sight![]()
Different cultures have their pros and cons. You'd change your tune if they were maiming women with clitoral circumcisions or murdering those they suspect of practising witch craft...
"Celtic is important to me in as much as it's one of the only constants in my life over the years. I have changed and become various things but it is the one constant. Religion, friendships have come and gone, likes and dislikes have come and gone, but Celtic has remained." - Billy Connolly
Sounds like a brilliant day out man, i wish to fuck the culture over here was like theirs.
Sounded like a good one mate, (embrace all different cultures)
I've found that almost everywhere I have been outwith the Uk, the people have been a lot more welcoming and nice. Even to themself, not just to the foreigner.
The culture over here is shocking, and the way we treat people on a day to day basis is nothing short of shite. We wouldn't dare smile at anyone who we didnt know, or talk to anyone. Else where in the world, they embrace communication, relationships and offering their help in any sort of way.
Best example I can give, is while away in America I would walk in and out of shops, and on the most part when the assistant passes, they say hello and they come across as actually meaning it, asking how you are and just having a conversation with you. Simple things, but over here we walk in to a shop and we are greeted by depressed faces, who mumble the word "hello" to you and when you dare respons to it, they have nothing to offer back to you at all. After coming home, I walked in to one of the Celtic stores with a mate, the wee lass at the door said hello to us as we came in, and I ended up in a conversation with her(helped that she was hot of course) but my mate just looked at me as if I was daft, wondering why I was making conversation when all he wanted was to get in, find the top and get the fuck out.
Bad attitude with us on the most part. Always love meeting new people and life styles, opens it up to you about how badly we treat ourselfs.
Glad to hear you had a crackin time though man![]()
