Wanted a challenge and a new enviroment, so went into the editor and transferred Celtic and R*ngers to the Championship. Took out Plymouth and Petersborough, put them into the SPL and then made them Celtic B and R*ngers B and shipped all the reserves/youngsters into each team.
Just finished my first season. Ended up fourth, which in the long run I wasn't happy with. Third last game of the season I played Newcastle (who finished second) and was winning 2-1 right up to the 89th minute when they equalised. That result effectively lost me out on a promotion place, ended up finishing 2 points behind Newcastle.
R*ngers came fifth so I played them in the play-off semis, cunts beat me 4-3 AGG. They went on to beat Sheffield United in the Final and put themselves into the Premiership (bastards). I believe my ultimate downfall was European Football. Due to Celtic coming second in SPL, we were in Europe (problem I didn't address in editor) went right through to the quarters of the Europa League, which was great but it meant my games in hand were piling up in the league. Ended up with about 4/5 games in hand, and usually sitting around 6th or 7th - which on paper looked bad, but if you took into consideration the points I could gain from the games in hand I had potential to be first. But due to the position, the players started voicing their "worries" and "doubts" so ultimately the morale went down, not to mention the fitness. I finished the season having played 76 games (including friendlies, FA Cup, League Cup etc) which is effectively two seasons worth of games.
So basically, I'm stuck in the Championship for another season with a minimal transfer budget (sitting at 1.2M atm). I had brought in CB called Dalton, Turk Striker Sercan Yildirim (30 in 42 games) and a load of loan deals, including the likes of Aaron Ramsey etc. So now the loans have gone back to their clubs, I'm really basically stuck with the original Celtic squad with them two signings and a few youth signings.
My main problem area is my defence, Dalton was my only real consistent defender. Really need a LB and another CB. Maybe a tough CM and I would be happy, I ended up the highest-scoring side in the Championship (92 goals) at the end of the season, so that wasn't my problem. Defence is. Anyone have any suggestions as to how I could go about improving?
Throughout the season I mostly used 4-4-2 + 4-1-3-2. Played the anchor man in more difficult matches I needed to grind out, went 4-3-3 at times too but I never really had the players capable of doing that.
Looking to offload a few players, hoping to sell McGeady + Boruc (he's doing my balls in, constantly not showing up for training) so need a replacement Goalkeeper too. Hopefully McGeady sale brings in some funds.
Board just give me 7.5M, so that's not too bad. I'll have a look at Ochoa now, wanted to get Lung Jnr, but he isn't on my game? :/
Was having a look at Tim Krul too, he doesn't seem too bad.
Bought Dan Gosling for 5M. Looking for a CB + GK now.
Used to find Krul done not too badly for me at Celtic.
as for CB, try getin a hold of Toprak, might cost you though, may need to sell to get him.
I had a database with Celtic and R*ngers in the Prem. Just like how most people (who hav a clue) predict in real life, I did pretty shite the first year then recieved the £30m TV money and started challenging for the title.
Proud we march behind the banner, firm we'll stand behind our men
We will have them free to help us, cheer on the Celtic once again
Great suggestion, I was actually trying to get him last night. They wouldn't accept any bids, was up at 6M then City came in with a bid of 9.75M and snapped him up.
Brought in Dan Gosling, LB Dodo on loan, Giovani dos Santos, Jason Koumas on a free transfer (Wigan had to offload a lot because they got relegated, trying to snap up Figueroa too) and Jason Djourou. Still searching for a few players, especially a goalkeeper. Thinking of buying a new striker if I have the funds too.
Sold Brown for 5M (lol), Boruc for 4M + there's talk of McGeady going for 10M (fuck knows why). So I'll have a bit more funds if that happens.
Thinking of going with a 4-1-2-1-2 formation. With Gosling as CDM, Maloney and Mizuno as wingers (who are both great for me) and Dos Santos as the CAM.
Jo isn't too bad a signing, not sure when, if it is season 2 or 3, but you can usually get him on a free at some point. Would be good for Celtic in the Championship, not sure about a title challenge in the Prem though.
Try Maicon as well, brazilian AM/C i think, plays well off Jo at times.
how do i put celtic in the championship?
Anyone recommend a good CB? I have 10M atm, need a CB. Could do with a LB too.
Mapou Yanga Mbiwa - lb see how much you can get him for.
or even Michal Kadlec.
Subotic or Lovren for CB
Thimothee Kolodzieczak from lyon is a good young LB, train him right and you'll get good use out of him.
should cost next to nothing to.
Tried getting Subotic in first season, couldn't get him for anything under 10M. I'll have a look at the others, cheers.
Similar to Subotic, tried getting him and couldn't for a cheap price. Just went to Inter for 12M.
I took in Chris Smalling on loan, so that's not bad. He can do for back-up, still have 10M to get defenders though.
