Or you know, they could not have given the World Cup to a city notorious for rape and murder and instead maybe given it to a civilised one who might even get stuff organised on time.

Or is this just FIFA's way of keeping a clear conciense, by "helping out" the "third world" (or at least the richest country in Africa...)

I can appreciate the economic benefit of this, but there are other ways SA could be helped financially. That said, I am delighted for the African football fans who probably never thought they'd have a chance to see a World Cup, although apparently hardly any locals are buying tickets anyway.

Not that I think rapists deserve any protection (sorry for the pun), but knowing how the courts work, I would have thought any rapist who got stung by one of these would also be seen as a victim. It's a bit like setting traps in your house for a burglar - you'd probably end up getting sued
