I drove past that pub on Thursday and it was absolutely mobbed with Hamburg fans and huns. This is a well known hun boozer and one which was in the papers recently as residents who had complained of the noise from the pub had been threatened.

Spiers is talking total and utter garbage regarding what he calls 'anti-Irish' racism.

Firstly, there is no such thing as an Irish 'race'. Nationality, yes, race, no. A simple fact that this idiot cannot grasp.

Secondly, where are the examples of this 'anti-Irish racism' from the R*ngers support? Do we sing about hating Irish people/Ireland? No.

What then? Perhaps he must be thinking about the so-called Famine song. I mean, wise up. Even Irish people laugh about it.

There is a big difference between being anti-Irish and anti-Fenian. The gulf is as wide as the Irish Sea itself.

As an Irish/British person his statement is both factually wrong and infuriating, because those who only have a cursory interest in these issues take his glib nonsense at face value. Which is why, unfortunately, Spiers is a dangerous creature.

For the record, I was talking recently to a southern Irish mate (GAA fan, not a Celtic fan) and he doesn't think R*ngers supporters, in general, are anti-Irish. He doesn't feel 'offended' by our songs either, and his understanding of such nuances would generally be the norm for any reasonably intelligent person in the Irish Republic itself.

A word for the Corduroyed Crusader. The vast majority of Irish people understand that hating IRA terrorist scum is not the same, in any way, shape or form as hating Ireland as a country and/or its people.

In fact, to compound Spiers' ignorance, if you were to take his insinuation to its logical conclusion, many Bears of Irish extraction (and there are many) would be hating themselves!

Spiers, in summary, is a cretin who knows nothing about Ireland or Irish people.
