    Fifa's Sepp Blatter has revealed the Republic of Ireland have requested a spot in the 2010 World Cup finals as an extra team after their play-off defeat.

    The Republic lost to an extra-time goal against France when Thierry Henry handled the ball during the build-up.

    At this rate I wouldn't be surprised to see the Irish National team travel to SA and show up at all of France's fixtures in an attempt to take to the field instead of the French.

    Cant we just threw France out the World Cup and replace them with Ireland?

    Well I believe they're trying to not let FIFA forget France shouldn't be there, but Ireland as it stood didn't deserve to be in the World Cup either so them being there would be as bad as France being there

    Fuck it, it is desperate but we were unfairly paped out at the last minute. I couldn't give a shit how it looks, if it gives us another glimmer of hope to be at the WC then it's worth it. Costa Rica were also being considered at the meeting.

    no one from the FAI actually expects this to happen but i'd rather they were actually pestering FIFA than sitting on their arses mourning another irish hard luck story.

    have to say though,i like the idea proposed above about just turning up at frances matches and playing.
