To be fair, had a ref worn an ulster hand on the end of a whistle, we'd be fuming to.

But in saying that, that says more about a man than a simple cross. The cross can for many different religions, and is a simple religious sign. Whereas what they may wear in the form of an ulster hand, brings their thinking to a more local level, and clearly shows one side of a divide.

But then again, this is almost along the same lines of Artur blessing himself, or wearing a tshirt of the pope. All very taboo stuff in the SPL, and something we should be set to get out of football.............I think I'm meant to put some sort of face here....

There's nothing wrong with having a crucifix on the end of your whistle nor is it wrong to commemorate the ex-head of your religion. The fact that trivial things such as this make the media speaks volumes about our country.

The ref showed the Christian symbol during last weekend's Hoops' match at St Johnstone.

The Bhoys were losing 1-0 in the SPL clash when Collum sent off a Saints player. They went on to win 4-1. TV pundits said the official's decision was CORRECT.

But afterwards, livid Gers fans still went online to slam the ref over his religious display.

On one website, a sick poster fumed: "Job done Father Collum. You must be so proud."

The referee, 31, had previously worn a St Christopher medal on his whistle during matches.

Collum teaches religious education at Cardinal Newman High School in Bellshill, Lanarkshire.

Last night he confirmed he'd attached a cross to his whistle.

Collum said: "It's because I'm a Christian person. I don't believe anybody could question my honesty. I'm stunned."

An SFA spokesman said: "We don't want to comment.

Catholic refs, what the fuck is this country coming to!?!?

    I find it pretty funny
