"What these players have to realise, is that when you put on the Celtic jersey you're not playing for a football team, you're playing for a community and a cause"
Giggs wouldn't even be top 10, not consistent enough and had a few average seasons sure United were looking to offload him at one stage.
Alright mate, was joking about the bear thing obviously.

"People always talk about Ronaldinho and magic, but I didn't see him today - I saw Henrik Larsson. That's where the magic was. Sometimes you talk about Ronaldinho and (Samuel) Eto'o and people like that, but you need to talk about the proper footballer who made the difference and that was Larsson."
It was made in the heat of the moment, but Thierry Henry's outburst following Arsenal's UEFA Champions League defeat by Barcelona clearly didn't lack conviction, and is typical of the esteem in which Henrik Larsson tends to be held by his peers.
Even Ronaldinho, one of those singled out by Henry, claims that the Swede was, and remains, his "idol", and the Brazilian is not alone at the Camp Nou in mourning the return to Helsingborgs of a player Frank Rijkaard describes as "an exemplary sportsman".
Larsson has never been as eye-catching a player as his Barcelona team-mates Ronaldinho and Lionel Messi, but he has justifiably earned universal acclaim for neither playing nor behaving like a star and remains a player about whom no-one in the game seems to have a bad word to say. In 2004, he was voted Sweden's greatest player of the past 50 years, this after returning to excel in the country's UEFA EURO 2004 campaign, and many expect his strike partnership with Zlatan Ibrahimovic to be among the most potent at Germany 2006.
The pair did, though, endure a frustrating afternoon against a determined, resolute Trinidad and Tobago rearguard in their opening match and, if Sweden are to progress and prosper in this tournament, Larsson will undoubtedly need to rise to the occasion. The odds on him doing so will, or certainly should, be very short indeed.

As goalkeeper, I think Gordon Banks would be the man for the job. He was one of the best-ever and I think everyone remembers his amazing save from Pele's header in the 1970 World Cup.
At right-back, I would have my old Sweden team-mate Roland Nilsson - an amazingly good defender. He is a good person, too.
Then, in the centre, I would start with Bjorn Lilius, whom I played with in Helsingborgs. He was a good footballer and a close friend of mine.
Next to him, I would play Johan Mjallby. We played together for many years in Celtic and in the national team and he was always a guy you could depend on.
On the left, it would have to be Leonardo from that Brazil team which won the World Cup in 1994. He was an excellent left-back.
Then comes my left winger. Who did I put there again? Of course, Ryan Giggs. He has been a fantastic football player, a great crosser of the ball. As a striker, I'd love to have him in my starting 11.
Inside of him, I would have Lino Boriero, another former team-mate of mine at Helsingborgs. Lino was an incredibly skilful player and an excellent passer of the ball, really great.
Alongside him in the centre I'll go for Patrik Sundstrom. We played together in Hogaborg, my first club, and later for Helsingborgs too. He was a good footballer, and excellent on free-kicks.
To Patrick's right, I think I would play the Brazilian, Kaka. He's an incredible footballer.
As for my fellow striker, it couldn't be anyone else but my all-time hero, the great Pele.

How about that list then?
Giggs didn't appear once, not even in the top 3 places once. How can he then be described as the best player of the last 15 years?
If you're talking about consistency why not give the award to Javier Zanetti? The guy has been putting in level 8 performances evry week for Inter and Argentina since 1994.

for a different voting system - Still no Giggs.
We could problay swap lists & Articles all day mate !
The people who make them list are clearly on Hallucinating butter at the time of coming to their conclusions !![]()
Look through those names, some havent even been playing the professional game for 10 years. let alone playing for one of the most successful football clubs in the world for the past 20 years, every season without fail . nor do they have the medals Ryan has got. we will agree to dis-agree on this subject.ps here`s one more article.
Let me put my cards on the table from the outset. Yes, Ryan Giggs absolutely is the greatest ever Premier League player. There can be no doubt – he has been an integral member of the first-team at Manchester United in each of the Premiership’s 16 seasons, and no side has come close to the Red Devils’ domination in the Premier League era.
And as United have amassed trophies, so the Welshman (who will make his 800th appearance for United if called on against Arsenal this evening) has collected medals. His haul of league wins since the Premier League was created in 1992 stands at a phenomenal 10, whilst he is also the only player to have scored in every single season he has played in England’s top division.
The rivals
The credentials of other players regularly feted as the greatest to grace this league – Zola, Bergkamp, Cantona, Henry etc. - diminish in the shadow of Giggs’ trophy cabinet and when confronted with the winger’s longevity. The four players listed were wonderful talents, but their spells in the Premier League were brief when held up against the Welshman’s durability of performance at the top level.
There are other members who graduated from the Manchester United youth system at roughly the same time as Giggs who are still plying their trade at Old Trafford. Gary Neville and Paul Scholes have lasted a similar time at the top level and have comparable medal collections. Neville’s quality has been waning in recent years, however, as injuries have ravaged his chances of playing regularly. Just as Giggs’ career has reached an Indian summer with this year’s PFA Player of the Year award, Neville seems to be moving inexorably toward an imminent retirement.
Which perhaps leaves Scholes as the Welshman’s strongest rival for the Premier League’s greatest. Terrific player though he has been, Scholes only became a first-team regular for United in the 1995/1996 season, whilst Giggs was a feature at left-midfield at Old Trafford in the Premiership’s inaugural year, some three seasons earlier. Picking a winner based on on-field achievements between the two is near impossible, so Giggs’ extended Premier League service must triumph here.
Player of the Years
To have lasted so long in the Premiership given the competition faced from younger legs through the years is perhaps Giggs’ greatest achievement. As if to illustrate this, when the 22-year-old Luis Nani’s Manchester United career reached a low point as he was hauled off against Tottenham on Saturday, a day later the 36-year-old Giggs was triumphing at the Player of the Year ceremony.
With this accolade, it seems that his fellow professionals agree with the assessment of Giggs as the finest to grace the Premier League. Based on this season alone (just 12 starts for United in the league), there is no way he should have won. But ever since his nomination, it became clear that the vote was not for Player of the Season, but instead Player of the Seasons. And who could disagree with him winning that?

Zizou.
Zidane was hardly a whore. He had 3 clubs if I am not mistaken: Bordeaux, Juventus and Real Madrid.
If Totti was as good as you think, he would have made it to one of the world's best clubs and won Chamions Leagues.
Giggs perhaps doesn't deserve the title either but I would say he is the best player to have come from these islands in the last 15 years, he's far better than the likes of Beckham or Owen. Rooney is better but he has not played for 15 years.
In my mind, it's Zidane by a long shot.
Cannes as well....
You having a go at the great man for not being a mercanary says it all. Europes elite chased after Totti but to no avail, Madrid and Barca made no secret of that fact. Mercifully man has never judged a hero on the battles he won, but on the manner he fought them. Totti has a World Cup, a Euro Runners up, a Serie A, numerous Italian Cups and Super cups, a couple of Italian golden boots and a raft of player of the year medals that not too shabby![]()
He started with Cannes then moved to Bordeaux 4 season later.
It's not as if he had short stays at any of his clubs either, the shortest time he's been at a club is 4 seasons. Also keep in mind Totti isn't exactly playing for small change at Roma which he could get better elsewhere. He's on upwards of £100k a week
Now I disagree with the first part of this because he's so loyal to Roma. That's like saying McStay wasn't as good as we say because he never made it to a top European side.If Totti was as good as you think, he would have made it to one of the world's best clubs and won Chamions Leagues.
Yeah I agree with this.Giggs perhaps doesn't deserve the title either but I would say he is the best player to have come from these islands in the last 15 years
Zidane, looked as if he never tried and was still a master.
I'm not having a go at him. I'm merely saying if he was that good he would have been hunted down by one of the bigger European clubs. Kaka was perfectly happy and had vowed to be at the San Siro for life but the money offered to him and his club was the deciding factor. If they really wanted him then I believe they would have gotten him.
Nice collection of medals there. I think Zidane's achievments shit all over them though.
He was hunted down and didn't move thats my point. Kaka has nothing to do with it Milan wasn't his hometown club etheir....
Fact is Madrid were desperate for Totti and never got him
Another cheap dig at Totti for not prostituting himself out to Real at a time when they were buying all around them
