I can't really take to Tom Waits though I've tried.

    Beefheart's alright.
my dad has almost his entire back catalogue, which is extensive to say the least. apostrophe/overnight sensation and joes garage were my favourites as a kid. not normally a fan of humour in music but zappa pulls it off.

tom waits is one of my favourite artists of all time. the heart of saturday night, rain dogs and heart attack and vine are essential listening.

beefheart has that marmite factor, personally i think he's one of the most talented musicians ever. amazing artist too, think he did a national tour of his sculptures and paintings when he was 7

Where would you start with all three if you knew nothing about them?

Ah we've got some of the good Cap'n on the go.

The beefheart could make average musicians play out of their skin for him.Every note in the Magic Band is played because captain wanted it that way. Every one can learn the notes, but few could write it .

I'm liking it hoopy. Anything you'd recomend outwith that bluesy style though?

I used to wonder what the two mikes were for for these live performances:o

Aye I think the crowd size really suited him and the album, everyone loves an intimate gig
