Swedish defender Andreas Granqvist has revealed his proposed move to Celtic could still go ahead.

Granqvist has been linked with a switch to the Bhoys following manager Neil Lennon's admission his back line is in need of strengthening.

The 25-year-old is set to leave Dutch side Groningen after a two-year spell at the club with Parkhead likely to be his next destination.

Lennon has already been linked with St Etienne stopper Yohan Benalouane but Granqvist insists he still remains a transfer target.

He told the Daily Record: "Celtic are interested but the new coach must see what he has to work with financially."

This is the sort of defender we should be looking to bring in. Between him and Benalouane, our defence would be perfect for the SPL and against a lot of European teams. Next a Goal keeper.

couldnt see it being any higher than 1.5million.
His fee's in the past have never went above 750k. Coming from a 'lower' club they won't be holding out for a massive fee.

Snap him up then I say - for that price you can't really argue!

If these two are any good we should go for both of them, that way Rogne and Hooiveld can be 2nd choice CB pairing, keep O'Dea and Loovens off the pitch at all costs (and preferably punt them to fuck!).

Would be my ideal situation for the time being.
Obviously I'd rather have Spain's centre backs, but we can't be too picky now can we :p

Sure who knows, the board are known for splashing the cash when there's a problem on the field. Oh wait...

Celtic were linked with Granqvist a couple of months ago and I was wondering what ever happen to that story. I know there were a number of other clubs interested. He has done well since his not so good run at Wigan.

Pretty good goal scoring rate for a defender at Groningen. He hit for 10 in just over 50 games.

On a side note Granqvist has been called up to the Swedish squad that will face Scotland later this month.

Seems like there's a few deals dependant on McGeady going. And I still don't think Aiden will go to Russia.
