Celtic are stepping up their interest in Birmingham forward James McFadden, skysports.com understands.

Bhoys boss Neil Lennon is in the market for attacking reinforcements with Aiden McGeady expected to move on before the close of the transfer window.

McFadden is believed to be on Lennon's list of targets with Celtic holding a long-standing interest in the former Motherwell man.

Lennon is expected to have funds available from the sale of McGeady and he could be ready to test Birmingham's resolve to keep hold of McFadden

The talented Scotland international has a year left on his existing deal and has yet to agree an extension at St Andrews.

A number of other clubs are thought to be monitoring McFadden's situation, but Celtic are hoping to steal a march on their rivals by luring the Scot back to Glasgow.

I posted 2 weeks ago that celtic were close to tying up deals for Craig Bellamy & James Mcfadden, only to be ridiculed by people that know SFA, that have nothing better to do than question people's sincerity, of how they know this and that..I would never reveal who told me, as thats just wrong, altho they are ok with me revealing bits & bobs.. i was sworn to secrecy on this particular move.. but i can confirm that There is a twist in the tail in our move for Mcfadden.. Alex mcleish suggested a possible swap + money for scott brown to move the opposite way,Apparently Neil wanted to keep brown but his mind may have changed or been changed ? dnt know if that swap deal will defo happen ? depends on brown.... this has already been leaked to the press so im safe to post it...
