Celtic face battle to land £100K Bohemians hitman Paddy Madden
Aug 9 2010
Celtic face a fight with Derby County to seal the £100,000 capture of Bohemians striker Paddy Madden.
Neil Lennon has targeted a move for the Republic of Ireland Under-21 hitman and is already in contact with the Airtricity League side.
Madden is highly rated in his homeland and was voted Ireland's Player of the Month for June after scoring nine goals in just five games.
But Record Sport understands Pride Park boss Nigel Clough was in Dublin to watch Madden in yesterday's league clash against Shamrock Rovers.
And he could be set to test Lennon's nerve with a bid for the Bohs star.
Meanwhile, Celt Cillian Sheridan arrives in Bulgaria today to seal his £300,000 move to CSKA Sofia.

Celtic talks with Bohemians over Madden ?ongoing? | Football | STV SportCeltic are in negotiations to sign Ireland Under-21 striker Paddy Madden, according to Bohemians manager Pat Fenlon. The forward, who spent time on trial in Glasgow earlier this year, played against the Hoops in a friendly in Dublin on Sunday, which Celtic won 4-1.
Fenlon insisted he wanted to hold on to the player, who is valued at around £100,000, but admitted that the player was keen on a move. However, a report in Ireland’s Evening Herald suggests Madden has not agreed personal terms with Celtic.
"We're still talking to Celtic but nothing has been agreed,” Bohs manager Fenlon told the newspaper. “We're still at the talking stage and it's all up in the air.
"Paddy is keen to play abroad. I would like to hold on to him if I can.
"Any deal has to suit the club and suit the player. If it doesn't suit Paddy or Bohemians it won't happen. I don't want to lose Paddy, I want to keep all of our players.
“Celtic are still keen and they are interested in Paddy."
The 20-year old has scored 10 goals in 32 appearances for Bohs in the Airtricity Premier League this season. A run of nine goals in five matches saw him named the Player of the Month for June.
He has one Irish Under-21 cap, having played against Armenia last year and netted for the national Under-23 side against and England ‘C’ side in May.
Celtic are not the only side interested in securing Madden’s signature, with Derby County having scouted the player several times.
STV are known for jumping the gun a bit so pinch of salt needed.
On the guy himself, he was by far bohs best player yesterday at the friendly, don't think he'd fair well with Celtic though
