Kieren Westwood is soon to be subject of an improved offer from Celtic, according to reports. The Scottish club are said to be returning with a £1 million bid for the Coventry City keeper, who sat out his side’s 2-0 loss to Morecambe in the Carling Cup on Tuesday night.
Westwood, who is English-born but has been capped three times by the Republic of Ireland, has been the Sky Blues’ outstanding performer in recent seasons and has attracted interest from the English Premier League.
Celtic, who are in the market for a new number one after selling Artur Boruc to Fiorentina earlier in the transfer window, are believed to have had a £500,000 offer rejected for the 25-year-old in July.
But with an impending influx of cash from the sale of Aiden McGeady to Spartak Moscow, the Daily Express report Celtic boss Neil Lennon will offer a double or quits bid to the Championship club for the keeper, who has 12 months left to run on his deal at the Ricoh Arena.
Celtic have cast their net far and wide in the search for competition to current incumbent Lukasz Zaluska and missed out on the signing of David James recently, when the England international opted instead to join Bristol City.
Reports on Tuesday claimed a bid had been lodged for Crystal Palace’s former Dundee keeper Julian Speroni, while talks to sign Real Valladolid’s Jacobo – who played in a bounce match against the Hoops on Tuesday – are said to be ongoing.

Westwood started his career at Manchester City as understudy to James and former Dundee United keeper Nicky Weaver, moving on loan to Oldham Athletic for a spell before he dropped down to the Conference to play for Carlisle United.
After dislodging Matt Glennon as the number one at Brunton Park, he went on to make 131 appearances as his side charged through the divisions to League One, before Coventry City paid out for him in 2008.

Does he no play golf?
Don't think I've ever seen him in action, so I've no idea if he's any good.

Decent player and better than Zaluska, Sign Lenny before saturday
With you squire, no got a clue about the guy.
Normally I'd moan about going for lower English division players, but at the age of 25 its understandable that he hasnt made it up just yet, but the interest apparently is there.
Can only take the words of guys who have seen him play. Cullen I assume has seen him play.
Better than Zaluska though?
dunno a thing about this guy but the same could be said about boruc before he signed with us
well i thought we didn't need anyone else other than zaluska so my opinions on GKs aren't the most trustworthy, aye I normally catch the championship highlights after motd, he's not a blunderer like zaluska just well rounded keeper capable of not fucking up every ball that comes near him. so better than zaluska aye.
Coventry City manager Adrian Boothroyd says there has been no fresh offer from Celtic since their initial bid for Kieren Westwood.
The Bhoys moved for the ex-Manchester City and Carlisle United shot-stopper last month, although their offer was swiftly rejected.
Celtic boss Neil Lennon is on the lookout for keeping reinforcements following the sale of long-serving keeper Artur Boruc to Fiorentina.
Boothroyd claims Celtic's offer was nowhere near what the club would be prepared to accept, regardless of the ongoing contract talks with the keeper.
Offer
"They made an offer about three weeks ago and Keiren knows all about it," said Boothroyd.
"It's £3.50 and a bag of haggis, which is nowhere near enough for a player of that quality.
"I don't want to lose someone who I think is the best goalkeeper in the division, someone I want to do is build a team around him.
"Negotiations (regarding a new contract) are ongoing, as they always are, it's a pain in the neck but that's how it is I'm afraid when other people are
involved."
"The offer is not really worth talking about because it's derisory and derogatory.
"So for now Keiren is very much our player. I want him here, (chairman) Ray Ranson wants him here and I imagine every single Coventry fan, player and member of staff wants him here. This is the place for him to further his career."

laughted at the bold parts...he comes out with the haggis reference then says are offer was derogatory hhmmmmm pot kettle black maybe! are maybe boothroyd thinks hes a comedian im not quite sure anyway seems celtic aint improved the offer so unless something is done quick we could lose out on kiernan westwood.
They've got a good youth system at Coventry so it doesn't surprise me the manager wants to hold onto a decent stopper while they roll out the young players.
Player of the year at Coventry last year was he not?
bothroyd is a twat
Celtic boss Neil Lennon vows to continue hunt for new number 7 after missing out on Craig Bellamy - The Daily Record
But Lennon may only move for Given if he can't do a deal for Westwood. One bid has already been knocked back by Coventry whose manager, Aidy Boothroyd, described Celtic's offer as being worth "£3.50 and a bag of haggis".
Lennon said: "I was annoyed by that comment. It's disrespectful.
"I don't know yet what will happen there. Maybe if we add a couple of bottles of Irn-Bru that should seal it."
