Celtic’s hunt for a new number one goalkeeper has seen another name added to the list, with reports in Denmark linking Anders Lindegaard with a move to the SPL. The Aalesunds keeper has already played in Scotland this season, facing Motherwell in the Europa League qualifiers.

Lindegaard, who was watched by Manchester United coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer during the Fir Park leg of the tie, has been linked in his homeland with a move to replace the spot vacated by Artur Boruc, who moved to Fiorentina this summer.

The 26-year-old was watched by Celtic when Norwegian club Aalesunds travelled to Scotland, in a match which Craig Brown’s team put three past Lindegaard as they won through to the play-off stage.

Aalesunds director Henrik Hoff, who revealed Manchester United’s interest in Lindegaard in July, told a Danish newspaper on Monday there had been an offer from an SPL club but refused to completely give the game away.

“There are several English clubs who have expressed an interest in Anders,” Hoff told tipsbladet.dk. “But a big Scottish club are also interested. As far as I know, there are only two big Scottish clubs – R*ngers and Celtic.

“Interest for Anders is very high. But how far along we are in negotiations, I cannot say. He may be sold in this transfer window but we are not dependent on selling him.”

Although Hoff wouldn’t confirm the possible destination of his star player, STV Sport understands Celtic are the interested party. The Hoops, who missed out on David James earlier in the transfer window, have also been linked with moves for Shay Given, Julian Speroni and Kieren Westwood within the last week.

A move for Real Valladolid goalkeeper Jacobo appears to have fallen through, despite the player’s agent travelling to Glasgow last week to meet with Celtic officials.

Dane Lindegaard, who spent the first six years of his career with Odense, moved to Aalesunds in 2009 and has seen his reputation grow at home and abroad. Manchester United have reportedly been watching him with a view to bringing him in as Edwin van der Sar’s long-term successor.
