Nottingham Forest demand £2m for Celtic target Kelvin Wilson | Mail Online
Celtic will have to cough up £2million to sign Nottingham Forest's Kelvin Wilson - despite the defender having turned down a new contract at the City Ground.
Top target: Forest star Kelvin Wilson
The 24-year-old Englishman has been one of Neil Lennon's top targets for weeks, with the Parkhead club believed to have enquired about a £1m deal for the rising star.
But, with just a week left of the transfer window, Forest are adamant they won't sell their prize asset on the cheap, even though his current deal has only 10 months to run.
Lennon, who will complete his 10th summer signing with the loan recruitment of Newcastle United keeper Fraser Forster today, has been patient in his attempt to lure Wilson away from Nottingham.
But Forest are aware that the £9.5m transfer of Aiden McGeady to Spartak Moscow gives the Celtic manager funds to play with in the final week of the window.
For his part, City Ground boss Billy Davies is anxious for the cash to secure his own targets, after seeing bids for Swansea's Darren Pratley and Cardiff's Peter Whittingham rejected by their Championship rivals.
The Wilson speculation, plus the signing of Swedish defender Daniel Majstorovic, has cast a question mark over the Celtic futures of Jos Hooiveld and Glenn Loovens.
Irish defender Darren O'Dea has already left on loan for Ipswich, while youngster Josh Thompson was yesterday farmed out to League One side Rochdale for the season.
Loovens has been linked with a loan switch back to Cardiff City, but the Dutchman seems determined to fight for his place under Lennon.
'Glenn is happy at Celtic and is under contract there. He doesn't want to leave,' said his agent, Roger Linse. Cardiff have refused to confirm their interest in Loovens, but boss Dave Jones originally brought him to Britain from Feyenoord back in 2005.
'There has been no formal approach and, for anything that might happen, we would speak to Celtic first,' said Cardiff chief executive Gethin Jenkins, who has also promised to pay Motherwell the money they are owed for defender Paul Quinn in the next 24 hours.
So what fucking position does he play in? Fucking daily mail.
24, playin for forest, last year of contract, and seemingly we are the only team interested. Hardly suggests he is in any sort of demand, or any decent.
For 2million they can get tae fuck in my eyes, we could buy better from the SPL, and I fucking hate buying from the SPL!
Such as Dan The Mhan!
No point going for this sort of player (from what i can gather of him) when we need that defence sorted now! Although I think Danny has it covered, and with Emilio in at Lb and Ledley doing good as cover as well, I'd rather see money spent on a striker and keeper...though by all accounts a daft loan signing of this inexperienced Newcastle keeper. so spend the money on a Keane please! 2million goes a long way towards his wages.
You said it mate, we've been down the road of early to mid 20's centre halves for a good few year now and to be quite honest, it's not worked out. I'd still rather we got rid of Loovens and maybe even Hooiveld and brought in someone a bit older and more experienced to play alongside Danny. And we'd still have Misun, Rogne and Thomson as back up, all of which would lear a lot more off Dan and the other CB than they would off Loovens and co.
Majstrovic is 33 and Hooiveld has been injured with us before, couldn't hurt to have a decent back up, if he is actually decent
Not a chance, you want to "GET RID OF" two cb's why? can't we just keep them two and still bring in another? misun injury prone rogne very injury prone thompson is out on loan. I wouldn't be happy with having two CB's who have terrible injury records as back up, leaves us no cover if one gets injured.
Ehm, because they're pish compared to what we could find elsewhere maybe? Let's be honest here, Loovens has had plenty of time to prove himself and has failed. Hooiveld i'm not totally sure of yet, but if we were to GET RID OF him and bring in someone with more experience i'd be happy.
I know there are a couple of injuries, but am talking in general terms. I'd like 2 solid experienced CB's, the 3 youngsters, and POSSIBLY Hooiveld as back up.
I'd only take him for £1m, better players in the SPL imo, such as Garry Kenneth and Mark Reynolds.
As Squire said, I'd rather have two experienced CB's.
