Football Italia - the Italian football website for English-speaking football fansThere are reports that Celtic have made an offer for Cagliari goalkeeper Federico Marchetti.
The Italy international was apparently taken off the market after papering over the summer row with President Massimo Cellino.
According to Datasport, Scottish giants Celtic have proposed to take Marchetti on loan with an option to buy for £5m.
The Hoops are looking for a competitive goalkeeper after selling Artur Boruc to Fiorentina, where he is currently the understudy to Sebastien Frey.
It’s reported that Marchetti would prefer to wait for an offer from the Premier League.
He was said to be of interest for Arsenal, Aston Villa and others.
Italian World Cup keeper rejects Celtic move – reports
Cagliari goalkeeper Federico Marchetti has reportedly turned down the chance to move to Celtic. The Italian international, who is likely to leave the Serie A club in this transfer window, is said to have been subject to an offer from the Glasgow side on Monday.
SportItalia reported on Monday afternoon that the Hoops had tabled a bid for the 27-year-old, who has appeared for his country seven times. But that offer was rebuffed by both Cagliari president Massimo Cellino and the player, who is said to be holding out for a move to the English Premier League.
If we're buying any keeper from Serie A it should be that Polish guy at Fiorentina.
Oh wait![]()
I saw that alright but no quotes in it so i thought the rumour was still fair game
Got excited there thinking it would be Marco Amelia or even Angelo Peruzzi had came out of retirement but I'd take Marchetti in a flash. Probably (or should I say definately) a pile of shite though...
Bit late for a keeper rumour isn't it? Sounds like an agent touting his wares to me.
