Emilio Izaguirre has been granted a work permit for his move to Celtic and has begun a lengthy journey to rejoin his new team-mates. The Honduran left-back returned to his home country to apply for his visa, which was granted on Monday night.
Izaguirre has agreed a three-year deal with the SPL club and is expected to arrive in Glasgow on Friday, having moved from Motagua for £580,000 last week.
The defender, who featured in two of his country’s games at the 2010 World Cup, is currently in Guatemala having had to travel to the British Embassy to finalise his application.
Izaguirre, 24, will then fly onwards to New York before arriving in Glasgow on Friday morning after his team return from Holland, where they are in Europa League action against FC Utrecht on Thursday.
“Thank God I'm ready to travel to Glasgow,” Izaguirre told El Heraldo of his move. “Joining Celtic is a blessing for me.
“I had some great days there when I came to sign and I feel I can do well. I hope to make my debut soon.”
With Charlie Mulgrew struggling for fitness, Izaguirre could yet find himself pitched into the action when the Hoops go to Motherwell on Sunday in the SPL. Midfielder Joe Ledley has found himself deployed as a makeshift left-back in recent games and is expected to follow suit on European duty.
Celtic beat off competition from MLS side Toronto for the 44-times capped player, who was also subject of a purchase agreement with Wigan Athletic, which the English club did not take up.
“He's a good player,” Lennon said of his capture last week. “He's strong defensively, he's quick, he's got a very good left foot and he's good going forward.
“He had a good World Cup for Honduras. [Full-back] is an area we've been looking to fill for a while. We've taken our time with this one and we think we've got the right one.”
