Aston Villa may let Curtis Davies leave on loan today with Celtic favourites for his signature.
The stopper, 25, failed to make Villa's squad on Sunday as they beat Everton 1-0.
And the defender, once an England prospect, is desperate for first team football after being frozen out under Martin O'Neill.
Davies blasted O'Neill and accused him of favouritism when he quit as manager five days before the start of the season.
Davies' current contract has two years to run after joining from West Brom permanently in August 2008 for £10million.
He made his 60th appearance for the club in their Europa League play-off defeat to Rapid Vienna last Thursday.
His latest start has triggered a clause in his contract allowing him to renegotiate his £25,000-a-week wages.
But he may opt to leave Villa Park today for Celtic after remaining behind Richard Dunne, James Collins, Carlos Cuellar and Ciaran Clark in the pecking order this term.
