PORTSMOUTH are poised to hand unsettled Celtic left-back Lee Naylor a passport to the Premiership.
Pompey gaffer Paul Hart is a big fan of the Hoops ace and SunSport understands he is ready to make his move. Hart has targeted Nayls to replace Armand Traore after the loan star returned to Arsenal.
Naylor has never hidden his desire to return to England, more so since losing his first-choice status at Parkhead to Danny Fox.
Pompey chief executive Peter Storrie confirmed: "He is one player we've looked at. We'll see what happens between now and the end of August."
Naylor has won two SPL title medals and played more than 120 games for Celts since his £600,000 switch from Wolves three years ago.
He was a virtual ever-present under Gordon Strachan and starred in glorious runs to the last 16 of the Champions League.
But he is keen to return south for family reasons and Hoops would NOT demand a huge fee as he's now entering the final year of his contract.
Boss Tony Mowbray has already hinted he will sell to fund more signings after the arrivals of Marco-Antoine Fortune, Landry N'Guemo and Fox.
The £1million-plus arrival of Fox from Coventry signalled the end for Naylor, who missed the stunning 2-0 Champions League qualifying win in Moscow on Wednesday night with a minor knock.
He won't be at Fratton Park in time for tomorrow's glamour friendly between Pompey and SPL champs R*ngers.
But Hart could move for him before the end of the month, even if the multi-million pound Arab takeover of the south coast club hasn't been finalised.
Please god please be true
09.40 Portsmouth chief executive Peter Storrie has confirmed the club are pursuing Celtic full-back Lee Naylor.
jesus christ
dont they have bel hadj?
seriously going to check the odds on them going down. they are fucking shit
I can't understand why anyone would want to buy him, never mind a Premiership side?! Hope to God this actually happens and best of luck to him down there, I think he always gave it his best but unfortunately that was just not good enough.
In fairness... we played Naylor because we didn't have another option. If he leaves, we will have no proper back up for Fox.
Proud we march behind the banner, firm we'll stand behind our men
We will have them free to help us, cheer on the Celtic once again
Fuck off. He needs to stay, unless we have a new signing lined up to cover Fox.
