CELTIC TARGET KELVIN WILSON GOES ON STRIKE AT NOTTINGHAM FOREST
FURIOUS Kelvin Wilson has gone on strike and demanded that Nottingham Forest sell him to Celtic.
Hoops boss Neil Lennon had a £1million offer for the defender turned down earlier this week, and that has prompted him to tell the Forest hierarchy that he wants out and has made himself unavailable for any of their pre-season games.
And it it looks as though Celtic they will get their man by going in with an increased offer of around £1.5m.
Lennon’s new-look side is starting to come together after Scunthorpe striker Gary Hooper finalised his £2.4m move yesterday, and he will fly out with his new team mates today for tomorrow’s Champions League opener with SC Braga.
Israeli international Biram Kayal is also expected to arrive in Scotland over the next 24 hours to complete his medical and his £1.2m move from Maccabi Haifa.
England No 1 David James also remains on the radar but he called off his proposed visit to Parkhead yesterday.
The 39-year-old was due to hold talks with the Hoops but called off for family reasons.
Wilson, 24, has one year of his deal left and has turned down an offer of an extension. The central defender knows he will get a significant increase by moving north and has told chairman Nigel Doughty he wants to go.
Wilson has continued to train with Forest but has made himself unavailable for games starting with their midweek friendly against Lyon.
Sources close to the player believe a deal will be agreed with Celtic within the next week. Lennon’s chase for striker Hooper was also a prolonged chase but he has finally got his man.
The 22-year-old former Southend star is confident he can fire Celtic to European and SPL glory. Hooper said: “I am very confident of scoring goals up here with Celtic and I just can’t wait to start playing.
“There were a few clubs linked with me but as soon as I heard about Celtic they were the only club I was interested in joining.
“I came straight up here as soon as got permission from Scunthorpe to speak to Celtic. I was desperate to come here.
“I can’t wait to get started because Celtic are a massive club and it is a dream to come and play here.”
Celtic boss Lennon’s spending will burst the £10 million barrier (?), as he has already signed Daryl Murphy, Charlie Mulgrew, Efrain Juarez, Cha Du-Ri and Joe Ledley.
The Hoops are also looking to move on the likes of Andrea Hinkel, and they have knocked back a £1.5m offer from Turkish side Trazbonspor for striker Giorgios Samaras.

All I know about the lad Wilson is he's 24 and played in over 200 league games, Kayal looks a sound investment and I reckon we should be getting at least £2m for Samantha as he has (just under) a goal every second game with Celtic.
I reckon the boy Kayal could be a fair bit of business, looks decent. Dunno much about this Wilson fella mind you.
I think we are still waiting on the "big signing" that Lennon was talking about, but I think there are a few players still set to leave to be honest. McGeady being one of them most likely.
Aye I reckon there's at least three players still to leave Rab... Hinkel, McGeady & Samaras.
http://sport.stv.tv/football/scottis...ke-say-forest/Nottingham Forest have insisted Kelvin Wilson has not gone on strike, following reports the defender had walked out because of his club’s rejection of an offer from Celtic. Newspaper reports on Tuesday claimed Wilson, who is said to have been subject of a £1 million offer from the SPL club, had refused to make himself available for any of Forest’s pre-season games.
Those claims were dismissed by a spokesperson for the Championship club on Tuesday afternoon, who delivered an explanation for the player’s return from the team’s training camp in Portugal.
“We can confirm that Kelvin has an injury,” the spokesperson said. “He took part during the pre-season trip to Portugal but since he returned he has picked up a shin injury and that is the reason he has not played.
“We have no idea where these stories about going on strike have come from.”
Wilson, who has just 12 months left on his deal at the City Ground, has been a target of Celtic boss Neil Lennon since before the end of last season. The Hoops boss watched the 24-year-old defender in action then, adding him to his summer transfer wishlist.
Celtic are expected to return with an improved offer to persuade Forest to sell Wilson, with Billy Davies – manager of the English club – admitting on Tuesday he could lose Wilson if the price was right, despite his desire to retain him.
“I have not spoken to the players but they know my feelings about them,” Davies told the Nottingham Evening Post, with Nathan Tyson and Chris Cohen also in demand. “They know that I like them and like them very much.
“Money talks in football however, we all know that. As a manager, you know that what you are dealing with now might not be what you are dealing with in two weeks.
“There is a lot of speculation with regard to Kelvin Wilson. We will have to see what happens there and it is the same with Chris Cohen and Nathan Tyson. It can be disruptive when that happens.”
